Trex is the Leading Composite Fencing and Gate Material

What is Trex? Since 1996, Trex has invented, defined and perfected composite outdoor living materials with a lineup of low-maintenance, high-performance products that fundamentally change the way we live outdoors.

Trex fencing was introduced in 2005 to meet the demand for a fence and gate that combine the natural beauty of a new wood fence and the low maintenance virtues of a vinyl or PVC fence.

Trex makes the best composite fencing with accompanying gates made from a proprietary blend of 95% recycled wood fiber and plastic. This unique product eliminates the negative attributes of typical wood or vinyl fences and gates and capitalizes on their virtues.

With Trex fencing and gates, you can be at ease knowing that our well-established brand, backed by its 25-year residential limited warranty, is trusted to meet the demands for a fence and gate that will last and continue to be stunning for years.

Trex is the Smartest Fencing System

(wood + plastic = wood plastic composite fencing)

What is Trex? Trex durable fence & gate products are the best composite fencing with the least amount of maintenance. Trex fencing is made of a combination of wood fiber and plastic. The wood in our fencing gives the product strength and beauty while the plastic in the fence gives it greater longevity, resistance to rot and decay, and creates a product that requires little maintenance. Trex fencing and gates never need painting or staining and typically last over 20 years. Composite fencing offers several components including composite fence pickets, composite fence panels and systems, composite fence posts and composite fence rails, and composite gates.

When using or installing Trex fencing you can use the same tools and saws that you would normally use to cut or install a typical wood fence or wood gate. Depending on the design and type of fence you are building, our fencing typically has a higher upfront cost than a wood or PVC/vinyl fence. However, after just a few years of maintenance and replacement costs associated with a wood or vinyl fence, a Trex fence provides a lower cost over time. (Get Pricing)

Trex is the Best Eco-Friendly Composite Fence Material

Always Green

We make Trex eco-friendly composite fencing and gates from an innovative blend of 95% recycled wood (typically obtained from furniture makers and/or waste pallets) and plastic (primarily reclaimed/recycled grocery bags and stretch film). We’ve been this way for more than 25 years, well before “green” was a buzzword. In the end, all of us want to look out on our fences and gates and know that we’ve done our part.

As one of the largest plastic recyclers in the U.S., Trex saves 500+ million pounds of plastic and wood from landfills each year. In addition to contributing to a healthier environment, our eco-friendly composite fences and eco-friendly composite gates also contribute to LEED points—not to mention your good karma. HOW TREX IS A GREEN FENCE

Recycled Wood

Recycled wood sawdust

Reclaimed wood that would otherwise end up in a landfill finds its way into Trex high-performance composites. By using reclaimed sawdust, we have never had to cut down a tree to make our products. Ever.

The Big Picture

Green fact leaf icon

What is Trex? It is the most environmentally responsible fence. Trex works along with other U.S. Green Building Council members to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built, and operated with the goal of creating environmentally and socially responsible spaces that improve the quality of life.

Recycled Plastic

Recycled plastic bags

The recycled fence material in our composites is combined with recycled plastic film from a variety of sources, ranging from the over-wrap on paper towels to dry cleaner bags, sandwich bags, newspaper sleeves, and grocery and shopping bags. Here’s an interesting fact: the average 500-square-foot Trex Fence contains 140,000 recycled plastic bags! That makes us one of the largest plastic bag recyclers in the U.S.

A Sustainable Supply Chain

Trex sustainable supply chain

Trex takes an active role to ensure our supply vendors operate with ethical and responsible business practices. Approximately 95% of our supply vendors are based in the U.S. We conduct supply chain assessments—including in-person reviews and operating facility tours—and work with our suppliers to reduce environmental impact across the supply chain. As a result, we make it a practice to use post-consumer and post-industrial content wherever possible.
